Gunmen Release Kidnapped French and Sudanese Nationals in Darfur

Sources told Darfur24 that armed men have released employees of a foreign organization after abducting them on Tuesday in the Khor Ramla area of Central Darfur State.

The team from the French organization Handicap International lost contact on Tuesday while traveling from El Geneina, the capital of West Darfur State, to Nierteti in Central Darfur. It was later confirmed that they had been kidnapped by unknown armed individuals.

A humanitarian worker who met with the released employees in Zalingei told Darfur24 that the kidnapping was carried out by nine armed men, most of whom were teenagers, shortly after the team passed through a military checkpoint in Khor Ramla.

The kidnappers took the organization’s employees to an area in the northwestern part of Jebel Marra, where they interrogated them and accused foreign organizations of failing to deliver humanitarian aid to all those in need in Darfur.

The source added that the gunmen robbed the employees of all their money and mobile phones, but confirmed that all released individuals are in good health.
