
Transitional Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris emphasized the importance of strengthening oversight mechanisms in the country, particularly the role of the National Audit Chamber. He noted the government’s commitment to transparency and integrity in public service.
On Sunday, the Prime Minister visited the headquarters of the National Audit Chamber in Port Sudan, where he met with Auditor General Salah al-Din Mohamed Othman and the chamber’s staff. He was briefed on the nature of the chamber’s work and its responsibilities.
In a press statement, the Auditor General said the meeting addressed various issues related to financial auditing, the chamber’s mandate, and its duties. He highlighted the chamber’s role in achieving the highest levels of technical efficiency, accuracy, and independence in order to safeguard public funds and prevent misuse.
He added that he provided the Prime Minister with an overview of the chamber’s performance and the financial and accounting reports of all state institutions from previous years, as well as the status of operations across various states. He stressed that the chamber operates with full independence and impartiality, noting that it ranked first in independence among Arab countries, second in Africa, and seventeenth globally, according to World Bank indicators.
