Chairman of the Transitional Sovereign Council, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, received a phone call from United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, who welcomed the appointment of Dr. Kamal Idris as Prime Minister.
Guterres affirmed the UN’s support for this step towards completing the civilian transition.
During the call, General Al-Burhan reiterated his seriousness in forming a government composed of independents, fully empowered to handle executive responsibilities.
The UN Secretary-General also called for a one-week humanitarian truce in the locality of El Fasher to support UN efforts and facilitate the delivery of aid to thousands of trapped civilians — a proposal Al-Burhan accepted, stressing the importance of implementing UN Security Council resolutions issued in this regard.
