El Fasher… An Unbreakable Line of Defense, a Banner in the Army of Al-Burhan’s Youth

By Dr. Hassan Mohamed Saleh

As is well known, the President of the Sovereign Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, responded to the request made by UN Secretary-General António Guterres during a phone call with Al-Burhan on the morning of June 27, 2025.

The Secretary-General’s request focused on declaring a one-week truce in El Fasher locality, North Darfur State, to allow the delivery of food supplies and medical aid to the city of El Fasher, which has been besieged for over two years by the terrorist Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia.

The UN Secretary-General, along with many observers, analysts, and media figures, expressed optimism that the ceasefire in El Fasher might be extended to other parts of Sudan, potentially ending the war and bringing peace to the country.

But alas, the world and the international community either do not understand—or willfully ignore—the reality of this terrorist militia.

As expected, the militia and its accomplices in civilian disguise and their client political parties revealed their true colors and announced their rejection of any truce or ceasefire that could allow aid to reach the displaced, refugees, and deprived residents of El Fasher. Instead, they intensified their rocket attacks on the city, launching a rocket daily—something that comes as no surprise.

The rebel militia has long employed starvation as a weapon in El Fasher and the Zamzam IDP camp, turning civilian life into unbearable hell by targeting aid convoys—the latest being a World Food Programme convoy that reached the town of Kuma in North Darfur. The militia diverted the convoy from El Fasher to their own forces, who are besieging over two million people in the city, most of them women and children.

This crime adds to the long list of atrocities committed by the RSF militia, which includes looting and burning humanitarian aid, and transferring supplies from UN vehicles to RSF vehicles in exchange for payments from aid organizations. Numerous media reports have documented these violations, but they continue to fall on deaf ears within the UN and its affiliated organizations. Even the UN Security Council’s resolution calling for the lifting of the RSF siege on El Fasher has not been enforced. President Al-Burhan has repeatedly demanded the implementation of Security Council Resolutions 27 and 35 regarding the RSF siege, including during his most recent call with Guterres.

Can you believe, dear reader, that the militia even prevents animals—donkeys and mules—from moving between El Fasher and its outskirts, under the pretext that they might be transporting supplies to the city’s residents?

The militia targets soup kitchens feeding hungry children in El Fasher with artillery and rocket attacks. They bomb hospitals and kill medical staff in North Darfur, according to the State Minister of Health.

With these actions, the militia aims to pressure the armed forces, joint forces, and popular resistance defending El Fasher, hoping to force them into surrender. Yet, despite over 200 attacks since the war began, the militia is repeatedly repelled at the city’s gates, its leaders killed, and its military equipment destroyed.

The Sixth Infantry Division and its supporting forces in El Fasher remain steadfast. They are under wise leadership, well-trained, and battle-hardened, fully aware of the militia’s intentions in targeting civilians to exert pressure on the armed forces.

Two days after the UN-proposed truce was announced in El Fasher, it has become clear to the Sudanese people that the international community has no effective response to the rebels. If only it would cease its support—along with that of the United Arab Emirates—for the terrorist Dagalo militia, it would relieve us all somewhat.

The real solution lies with the armed forces, by reinforcing the Sixth Division with a massive contingent made up of Al-Burraoun, the joint forces, and the “Truthful Promise” brigade, raising all banners of jihad under the leadership of the armed forces. The victories in Kadugli and Damazin against the rebellion signal the nearing of triumph in El Fasher, the city of the Sultan—indeed, the oppressor’s fate always turns against him.
