Sudan: 933 Killed in Attacks on Health Facilities This Year

Save the Children revealed on Thursday that 933 people have been killed in attacks on health facilities in Sudan during the first half of this year.

In a statement reported by Sudan Tribune, Save the Children said:
“933 people have been killed so far this year while trying to access healthcare or visiting loved ones in hospitals.”

The organization said it conducted an analysis of attacks on healthcare facilities based on World Health Organization (WHO) reports and found that 933 individuals, including children, were killed in more than 38 incidents during the first six months of this year.

It noted that the number of victims this year is about 60 times higher than the number of deaths reported during the same period last year.

The organization also stated that attacks on health facilities this year have injured 148 people — nearly three times the number of injuries recorded during the same period in the previous year.

Save the Children stressed that the number of attacks on healthcare facilities has remained high since the conflict began, expressing concern over the growing death toll this year, which is nearly four times the number of victims in 2023 and 2024 combined.

The organization warned that the looting of medical supplies is compounding the suffering of millions, including the theft of ready-to-use therapeutic food that treats children suffering from severe acute malnutrition.

It explained that these supplies were stolen from UNICEF’s stockpile at Al-Bashir Hospital in Khartoum last March and were also looted from facilities operated by Save the Children.

The organization warned that Sudan is likely to face a critical gap in global supply chains of ready-to-use therapeutic food in the coming months due to aid reductions, emphasizing that current stock levels — especially in Darfur — are dangerously low.
