The joint peace committee between the Rizeigat and Dinka Malwal tribes has succeeded in reopening the “Raqeibat” border crossing between Sudan and South Sudan, after it had been closed for three days.
The crossing was shut down by the South Sudanese People’s Army on Saturday following an armed robbery that resulted in the deaths of three people, including two South Sudanese nationals and one Sudanese citizen.
Abdullah Suleiman, a member of the joint peace committee, told “Darfur24” that the committee reached agreements that included the payment of blood money to the victims’ families and compensation of 25 million for the stolen goods.
He added that the agreements also included security control measures in the area.
The closure of the crossing had caused security tensions, halted daily movement, and led to the congestion of over one hundred trucks, as well as disruption to the mobility of citizens.
