Adeeba Al-Sayed, a member of the preparatory committee of the Sudanese Doctors’ Syndicate, confirmed that more than 222 doctors have been killed, over 30 doctors detained, more than 20 doctors kidnapped, and 9 female doctors raped.
In a press statement, Adeeba said that the targeting of medical professionals has led to the mass displacement and migration of healthcare workers, either out of Sudan or to regions far from conflict zones. She added that nearly 90% of hospitals and health centers have been shut down, resulting in the spread of diseases and overcrowding in the few hospitals still operating.
The Sudan Doctors Network had earlier announced the death of Dr. Mohamed Abdel-Raouf Hussein, who died under torture in the detention centers of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
According to the Doctors’ Syndicate, Hussein died from beatings after being arrested from his home in the Al-Taif neighborhood in eastern Khartoum in January 2025, and taken to the Al-Riyadh detention center, where he died later that same month.
