A high-level meeting of the Sudan Quartet Committee is set to take place next week, with the participation of the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the United States.
A diplomatic source familiar with the Sudan file in Washington told Sudan Tribune that the meeting, scheduled for July 20, will discuss a U.S. proposal to end the war in Sudan.
According to the diplomat, the American vision centers on two crucial steps to end the war: first, an immediate cessation of hostilities, followed by efforts to bring together the Commander of the Army, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, and the Commander of the Rapid Support Forces militia, Mohamed Hamdan “Hemedti”.
The source also expected the meeting to be attended by high-level representatives from the participating Quartet countries.
He added that Washington is seeking to forge a unified vision, which may involve compromises from some of the countries—though he did not provide further details.
