In an investigative report, The Washington Post revealed the details of a horrific massacre committed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the Salha neighborhood, south of the Sudanese capital Khartoum. The atrocity claimed the lives of at least 31 civilians on Saturday, April 27, 2025, as they attempted to flee the conflict zone.
According to survivor testimonies and the newspaper’s investigation, RSF fighters shot at the tires of trucks carrying around 250 people. They then forced the men off the vehicles, beat them, and carried out cold-blooded mass executions. The report includes exclusive video footage showing armed men chanting, “Don’t beat them—kill them!” as unarmed men were forced to remove their shirts.
Survivors confirmed that the perpetrators were under the influence of drugs, a claim supported by the discovery of a large Captagon production facility in the Bahri area, reportedly used by the RSF, according to authorities and local residents.
While RSF leadership denied involvement in the incident, a field commander named Jar Alnabi Abdullah appeared in a recorded video taking full responsibility for the killings, stating: “I was the one who gave the order to kill those people… Anyone with a problem should come to me.”
This massacre is considered one of the worst documented atrocities of the Sudanese civil war, which began in April 2023 and has so far resulted in more than 150,000 deaths and displaced 12 million people, amid a widespread collapse of security and humanitarian conditions in the country.
