Sudan Restricts WhatsApp Voice and Video Calling

The Telecommunications and Postal Regulatory Authority issued a notice on Sunday to telecom service users, announcing the restriction of voice and video calling services on WhatsApp in Sudan. This precautionary measure is being implemented due to security concerns, to protect national security and the country’s higher interests, effective from next Friday until further notice.

The Authority confirmed that other WhatsApp services—such as text messaging and group sharing—will remain available without restrictions. It expressed regret for any inconvenience caused and appreciated the public’s understanding in prioritizing national interests over personal ones.
