On Wednesday, one of the most prominent leaders of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia in the Kordofan region, General Al-Taj Youssef Abukadeer, known as “Voljang”, was killed in an airstrike carried out by the army on a gathering of his forces in the city of Abu Zabad, West Kordofan State.
Military sources told “Sudan Tribune” that “an airstrike by Sudanese army drones targeted Voljang while he was in Abu Zabad.”
The sources added that the strike also killed Al-Sadiq Hamidan Hammoudi and Hussein Issa, two of the top commanders in RSF Group 13, which was led by Voljang.
Several RSF members active in the Kordofan region mourned the slain general. His death has triggered a storm of disputes and mutual accusations among RSF forces.
One field commander accused embedded intelligence elements within the RSF of being involved in the assassination by revealing Voljang’s movements and filming him in recent weeks.
Voljang commanded RSF’s Group 13, which actively participated in attacks on the Signal Corps and in most battles in southern Khartoum, particularly the Armored Corps and the Central Reserve Police Headquarters, during the early months of the war.
