Two Sudanese refugees were seriously injured following a shooting inside the “Aboutengue” camp in eastern Chad, after unidentified armed men attempted to loot a shop within the camp.
The Aboutengue camp is located 27 kilometers south of the Chadian town of Adré and is one of the largest camps hosting Sudanese refugees fleeing conflict zones in Sudan. It shelters more than 45,000 families.
Eyewitnesses told “Darfur24” that an armed group tried to rob a shop located in the center of the camp. When several refugees tried to intervene, the gunmen opened fire, severely injuring two individuals.
Witnesses reported that the injured were transported to a health center within the camp for treatment, while Chadian authorities launched a wide-ranging investigation to identify the perpetrators.
According to the witnesses, this incident is not the first of its kind, as similar attacks have recently occurred in the camp, sparking widespread concern among refugees over their safety and security.
