West Kordofan: Army to Launch Decisive Operation to Regain Control of the State

The government of West Kordofan State announced on Friday that the army will launch a military operation to fully reclaim control of the state. Civilian groups, meanwhile, have condemned RSF militia attacks on villages in Kordofan that have resulted in deaths, injuries, and the displacement of residents.

The human rights group “Emergency Lawyers” stated that two consecutive RSF attacks on the village of Brima Rasheed, north of the city of Al-Nuhud in West Kordofan, on Wednesday and Thursday resulted in the deaths of 30 civilians.

According to a statement issued by the group on Friday, the attacks also left dozens injured, including women and children. The village witnessed scattered clashes between the RSF and some armed civilians; however, the RSF’s indiscriminate killings and direct targeting of civilians constitute a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law, the statement said.

The statement also noted the continuation of RSF assaults in Al-Nuhud and several surrounding villages, where dozens of civilians were killed and residents and residential neighborhoods were attacked.

The assaults extended to the villages of Wad Qasim, Umm Samra, Jaghab, Qaryoud, and Umm Jako, with RSF forces continuing to target wide areas across West Kordofan. The group described this as part of a recurring pattern of systematic violence and widespread terrorization of local populations in the complete absence of protection or intervention to stop the violations.

The Emergency Lawyers also accused the RSF of storming hospitals in Al-Nuhud, assaulting patients and their companions, and forcibly evacuating all civilians to use the facilities as treatment centers for their wounded fighters.

The government of West Kordofan also condemned the RSF’s ongoing violations against residents in several areas of the state in a statement issued on Friday.

The state government declared the completion of what it described as the “decisive phase” to liberate its territory from RSF control, in coordination with the army and supporting forces, according to the statement.

The statement accused the RSF militia of committing violations including indiscriminate killings, severe assaults on women and children, systematic looting of public and private property, and the forced displacement of civilians.
