The United Nations Human Rights Council announced that expert Radhouane Nouicer will begin a visit to Port Sudan on Sunday to assess the situation amid the ongoing conflict.
In a statement, the Council said the purpose of Nouicer’s visit is “to continue assessing the human rights situation in Sudan in light of the ongoing conflict and to engage with relevant stakeholders.”
The statement indicated that during his visit, which will last until the end of the month, the expert will hold meetings with authorities, UN agencies, humanitarian partners, and representatives from civil society organizations.
It also noted that Radhouane Nouicer will make it a priority to engage with displaced communities to hear their testimonies firsthand.
The Council stated that the outcomes of Nouicer’s visit to Port Sudan will contribute to the annual report of the UN High Commissioner, which will be presented to the Human Rights Council next March regarding the situation in Sudan.
