The Quartet… Unacceptable Impositions

Behind the News
Mohamed Wada’a
The world is in uproar, and all talk is centered around the new Quartet initiative. Yet no one understands the reason behind the government’s silence at such a critical moment. Some say the government has water in its mouth, others say it is still in formation—but the state has always found a way to speak, at least through the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who today spoke about a “Foundational Government.” This silence is unjustifiable, unless the government is secretly involved in what is being called an “immediate settlement”—based on a ceasefire agreement, a “stay-in-your-position” arrangement, followed by open negotiations (perhaps with hidden conditions) between the Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces militia, and the launch of a political dialogue to forge a new partnership deal resembling what existed before April 15, 2023.
Firstly, this silence erodes public trust in the government and diminishes its credibility—this much is clear. Secondly, such a settlement (or ceasefire) would be disastrous for the Armed Forces themselves, marking the beginning of movement restrictions and attempts to nullify the victories they have achieved. It would also drive a wedge between the military and the Sudanese people on one hand, and between the military and many political forces on the other. Particularly concerning are the whispered mentions that the final settlement may involve the so-called “Abraham Accords.”
The deliberations of this meeting cannot earn any credibility or respect as long as the UAE is participating—given its clear and documented role in the war. Numerous international reports, supported by evidence and testimony, confirm the UAE’s unlimited support for the militia, including the supply of all kinds of weapons, the recruitment of mercenaries and hired killers from around the world, and its responsibility for prolonging the war and increasing the suffering, displacement, killing, and looting of the Sudanese people. The UAE is not a neutral party; it is a principal actor and a partner in the aggression against Sudan.
The Sudanese people will resist these impositions and will defeat them—just as they defeated the first Quartet, the “Framework Agreement,” and all the baggage left by Mr. Volker.
Salute to Egypt and Saudi Arabia for their supportive positions toward Sudan, and shame and disgrace to the UAE.
