Khartoum Government Approves Academic Calendar and Sets School Start Date

At a meeting on Monday, chaired by Khartoum State Governor Ahmed Othman Hamza, the 2024–2025 academic calendar was approved, as presented by Dr. Qareeb Allah Mohamed Ahmed, Director-General of the Ministry of Education.
Teacher attendance will begin Sunday, August 24, to prepare school environments and address deficiencies. The official start date for final classes in primary, intermediate, and secondary stages is set for September 7. Student registration will continue across various grades to assess the actual needs for seats, books, classrooms, and restrooms. The situation will be evaluated according to registered student numbers.
The council granted the Ministry of Education one week to assess and set the start dates for other grades.
The Director-General noted strong parental desire to resume schooling to compensate for years lost during the conflict. He explained that the school year start date depends on students who studied abroad last year and in some states—these are a significant portion who stopped attending in Sudan awaiting the school start. He added that the new school year will encourage Sudanese abroad to return.
He also acknowledged challenges resulting from the war, including destruction and looting of schools and loss of furniture and textbooks, but affirmed that efforts would continue throughout the year to address these problems.
