WFP: Sudan Facing Neglected Famine Threat

The World Food Programme (WFP) warned of a catastrophic hunger threat in Sudan, stating it needs around $645 million to sustain its operations over the next six months to prevent famine and assist millions of people in need. The WFP noted that Sudan has not received sufficient attention and funding relative to the scale of the crisis, emphasizing the need for greater political and financial solidarity to save lives.

According to WFP Sudan’s national spokesperson Mohammed Jamal Al-Din, security restrictions are hindering the movement of aid convoys, making operations costlier and more complicated. He stressed that the program has yet to receive confirmation from the Rapid Support Forces to allow safe passage for its convoys.
