Sudan’s New Cabinet Holds First Meeting in Khartoum

The civilian “Government of Hope,” led by Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris, convened its first official session in the capital Khartoum on Tuesday, marking its return after the war erupted in April 2023.
The meeting followed the Prime Minister’s earlier announcement of plans to relocate the executive branch from Port Sudan to Khartoum by October or November, after months of managing state affairs from the Red Sea city.
The session came after the completion of the cabinet lineup, with the ministers of Health and Animal Resources taking the oath of office just two days earlier.
Held at the Khartoum State Secretariat, the meeting discussed ministerial plans for the year with a focus on public services, livelihoods, reconstruction, security, and facilitating the voluntary return of citizens.
The session was seen as a symbolic step toward reestablishing state institutions in the capital, amid ongoing security measures following its recapture from the paramilitary forces.
