Finance Ministry: China Has Implemented Multi-Billion-Dollar Projects in Sudan

Sudan’s Undersecretary for Planning at the Ministry of Finance, Mohammed Bashar, described the multi-billion-dollar projects implemented by China in Sudan as “monumental,” highlighting their role in advancing shared interests and benefiting Sudanese citizens. He cited Sudan’s oil project, the Merowe Dam, the Roseires Dam heightening, and the Friendship Hall as examples, affirming the ministry’s commitment to strengthening strategic economic cooperation between Sudan and the People’s Republic of China.

Speaking at a farewell ceremony honoring outgoing Chinese Chargé d’Affaires Zhang Xianghua, Bashar praised his efforts in fostering bilateral cooperation and expressed hope that his successor would continue in the same spirit.

Ambassador Mahmoud Hamza, Director of the Asian Department at the Foreign Ministry, also commended the Chinese Embassy’s role in strengthening ties, noting that early September will mark the 10th anniversary of the economic partnership between the two nations. He conveyed greetings on behalf of the Sudanese people and government to their Chinese counterparts, stressing that Sudan and China would continue to support each other in international forums. “We look forward to a new phase of reconstruction and development with the support of friends like China,” he added.

For his part, Zhang Xianghua reaffirmed his commitment to working with his successor to further advance cooperation and productivity. He described his time in Sudan as “extremely significant,” and expressed appreciation for the Sudanese people and government.
