Sudan’s permanent representative in Geneva, Ambassador Hassan Hamed Hassan, met on Wednesday with UN Human Rights Council President Ambassador Jürg Lauber to brief him on conditions in Al-Fashir, besieged by rebel militias for over 18 months, blocking humanitarian convoys and looting aid deliveries.
He detailed ongoing attacks on civilian infrastructure, with over 236 incidents involving drones and heavy artillery, and highlighted the involvement of foreign mercenaries, including Colombian fighters recruited by the UAE, warning of the regional threat posed if left unchecked.
Ambassador Lauber acknowledged the briefings and underscored the urgency of addressing foreign mercenary involvement in Sudan as an organized transnational crime requiring immediate international attention.
