Campaign to Remove Violations in the Mining Sector in Northern State

The Sudanese Mineral Resources Company’s office in Northern State, in coordination with the Mineral Economy Security Department and the Mining Security Police, launched a large-scale campaign to address violations in the mining sector.
The operation led to the seizure of more than 150 thiourea mixers, along with quantities of thiourea, cyanide, and activated carbon, all of which were being used to process gold ore in unsafe and unregulated ways. Authorities noted that such practices cause severe harm to the environment, public health, livestock, and the national economy. The campaign also included the dismantling of gold extraction ponds that used thiourea in the Al-Khannaq market in Abri, Halfa locality.
Abdelrahman Mahjoub Al-Nazif, head of the company’s office in the state, confirmed that official complaints had been filed with Dongola police and that the confiscated materials were referred to the prosecutor’s office. He stressed that the campaign is part of joint efforts by the company, the Mineral Economy Security Department, and the Mining Security Police to safeguard the environment and protect the health and safety of miners as well as host communities around mining activities.
