Stricter Controls on Sudanese Border Crossings to Curb Gold Smuggling

The Sudanese Mineral Resources Company in South Kordofan has carried out a field inspection covering Rashad and Al-Abbasiya localities. During the visit, the company’s state director, Nasser Warsha, reviewed the conditions of checkpoints and crossings in the eastern mountains, aiming to strengthen coordination with security agencies to curb systematic gold smuggling and prevent unauthorized chemicals from entering production sites.

Warsha revealed that the operation had led to several seizures over the past two weeks, including quantities of smuggled gold and chemical materials. He stressed that gold smuggling undermines the national economy, while the inflow of unauthorized chemicals poses risks to the environment and public safety.

He underscored the importance of close coordination with security forces to tighten control over crossings, boost national revenues, and advance corporate social responsibility programs benefiting host communities around mining areas. He also thanked security agencies for their significant role in shutting down smuggling routes and securing key seizures.

The tour included the head of the company’s checkpoints and crossings division, the director of mining security police, and a representative of the Minerals Economy Security Unit. They emphasized the need to strengthen checkpoint operations and conduct training workshops for security personnel on identifying and handling unauthorized chemicals.
