UN Secretary-General António Guterres has reiterated calls for an immediate halt to hostilities in El Fasher, North Darfur, urging all parties to respect and protect civilians and ensure safe, unhindered, and sustainable access for humanitarian aid, in accordance with international humanitarian law. He stressed the need to guarantee safe corridors for civilians wishing to leave the area voluntarily.
According to the UN News Center, Guterres expressed deep concern over the rapid deterioration of conditions in El Fasher, warning of growing risks to civilians trapped in the city. He noted that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have imposed a tight siege on El Fasher for over 500 days.
Recent reports indicate that attacks on civilians have intensified, with most residents of Abu Shouk IDP camp forced to flee due to ongoing shelling and airstrikes.
