Geological Research Authority Approves Five-Year Plan

The Board of Directors of Sudan’s Geological Research Authority held its regular meeting, chaired by Dr. Sheikh Mohamed Abdelrahman, with members joining via video conference.
Director-General Ahmed Haroun El-Toum presented the Authority’s five-year strategic plan and mid-year performance report. Omar Osman, Director of Mineral Resources, outlined technical achievements, while Issam Babiker, Director of Finance and Human Resources, reviewed financial performance.
The plan aims to transform the Authority into a leading national geological institution, contributing to Sudan’s development by optimizing mineral resource utilization and raising the mining sector’s contribution to 30% of GDP. It also includes laboratory upgrades, creation of digital databases, and training programs.
The mid-year report highlighted continued salary payments, workplace security, 65% completion of the digital mapping project, recovery of the Authority’s website, and resumption of the Russian project. It also noted participation in major regional and international forums, including the International Mining Conference in Riyadh and meetings of Arab and African mining committees.
Chairman Abdelrahman praised the Authority’s resilience under exceptional circumstances, stressing the importance of mineral diversification, provincial engagement, and low-risk projects to support national growth and sustainable development.
