WHO Delegation Arrives in Sudan to Assess Immunization Surveillance

A World Health Organization (WHO) delegation has arrived in Sudan to evaluate the country’s disease surveillance and monitoring system under the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI). The mission will begin field visits on Friday.

Acting Director of Primary Health Care, Ismail Al-Adani, told reporters that the evaluation teams will travel to targeted states including the Red Sea, Northern State, River Nile, Khartoum, Gezira, White Nile, Sennar, Gedaref, Kassala, and Blue Nile for four days. The teams will visit state headquarters, selected localities, and reporting centers to assess the sensitivity of the surveillance system, identify gaps, and recommend improvements.

The delegation will then reconvene in Kassala for a workshop to present the findings and propose a plan to address deficiencies, with WHO providing support where needed. Additional teams will later evaluate Darfur as well as North and South Kordofan states.

Al-Adani emphasized that this evaluation process is part of a global WHO framework applied across all member states in the Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office, with Sudan included.
