Eyewitnesses and local sources in Kabkabiya, North Darfur, reported that the Rapid Support Forces carried out a wave of arrests targeting several civilians on accusations of collaborating with or belonging to the Sudanese army.
One witness, who requested anonymity, told Darfur 24 that an RSF unit arrested Ismat Issa and three of his relatives from their home in the southern market neighborhood and took them to the headquarters of the 21st Brigade in Kabkabiya.
Relatives who went to the detention site seeking their release were reportedly asked to pay two million Sudanese pounds for their freedom, later settling on 1.2 million pounds after negotiations.
Another local source said the RSF also detained a rickshaw driver named Muzammil Musa from the city’s market and demanded 1.5 million pounds from his family to release him.
The same RSF unit arrested three more individuals from the market on orders from the militia commander in Kabkabiya.
Local sources further reported that several civilians were detained in the Airport, Al-Salam, and South Market neighborhoods on allegations of spying for the Sudanese army and the allied joint forces of armed movements.
