Sudan’s Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Hussein Al-Amin, met on Saturday with an African Union delegation to Sudan, led by Ama Twumasi, AU Commissioner for Health, Humanitarian Affairs, and Social Development.
Ama Twumasi explained that the visit aimed to assess humanitarian and health conditions and identify urgent needs in war-affected areas, stressing the AU’s particular focus on Sudan. She added that the visit aligns with directives from the Peace and Security Council to the Sub-Committee on Refugees, Returnees, and Internally Displaced Persons.
Ambassador Al-Amin welcomed the delegation, emphasizing that the visit comes at a critical time as militias continue to impose sieges and starvation policies targeting women and children in El Fasher, in blatant defiance of regional and international actors.
He provided a detailed overview of the humanitarian situation, affirming that the Sudanese government is coordinating with humanitarian organizations to support citizens in war-affected areas, while also overseeing voluntary returns in regions secured following government control over areas previously held by the Al-Digalo terrorist militia.
