Official: Hundreds of Children Killed, Missing, or Raped in Bara

The Sudanese National Council for Child Welfare has reported a severe deterioration in the situation of children in the Bara area of North Kordofan State, citing grave violations in recent weeks.

The Council’s Secretary-General, Abdelqader Al-Amin Abu, told Sudan Tribune on Tuesday that verified reports documented the killing of 50 children, the disappearance of 100 others, and the rape of more than 25 girls by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) after they regained control of the town on October 25. Dozens of lost and separated children were also reported along the route between Bara and Al-Muwailih.

He added that over 500,000 children in the region have been affected by displacement and malnutrition since the war broke out on April 15, 2023.

Abu stressed that many children have suffered deep psychological trauma after witnessing killings and sexual assaults, resulting in severe mental and humanitarian consequences.

He called for urgent intervention by child protection partners to provide psychosocial support and strengthen protection mechanisms to ensure the safety and well-being of children in the area.
