A Times opinion piece by Roger Boyes warned that U.S. silence over Sudan’s war “is compounding the suffering and opening the door to new chaos in the Middle East.”
Boyes wrote that “President Trump is trying to dominate the regional stage through symbolic gestures and political handshakes without genuine commitment, leaving the Middle East and North Africa in disarray.”
He argued that the massacre by the Rapid Support Forces in El-Fasher should have sounded the alarm in Washington, but the White House’s belief that ignoring distant wars will make them disappear only encourages further instability.
