The UK-based Darfur Links Network issued a strongly worded statement accusing international and regional actors of direct and indirect responsibility for the genocide in Al-Fashir in recent weeks, calling it “one of the most heinous crimes in contemporary history,” as defined by the International Criminal Court.
The statement named the RSF as the perpetrators and the UAE as “the main supporter, providing weapons, equipment, and resources.” It stressed that failure to prevent the genocide extends beyond armed groups to the UN, the UK government, and other international bodies that ignored documented warnings.
UN Neglect and Unenforced Resolution
The network held the UN accountable for failing to implement Security Council Resolution 2736, which called for lifting the siege on Al-Fashir and protecting civilians. Yale’s Humanitarian Research Lab reportedly warned the UN six times about an imminent genocide, yet the organization took no action, constituting deliberate neglect.
UK Complicity
The statement accused the British government of knowing what would happen in Al-Fashir but failing to act, citing The Guardian reports from November 7, 2025, confirming Britain “rejected plans to prevent atrocities despite clear intelligence warnings,” and October 28 reports revealing British-made military equipment in RSF hands.
Calls for Accountability
Darfur Links outlined four main categories of responsibility:
1. RSF and the UAE supporting it.
2. The UN for failing to act on its resolutions and warnings.
3. The UK government for inaction despite knowledge and capability.
4. Other international actors who chose to ignore facts.
The group demanded:
Immediate designation of the RSF as a terrorist organization.
An end to the genocide in Al-Fashir and unhindered humanitarian access.
An independent international investigation into UN inaction.
A formal UK inquiry into London’s role and possible use of British military equipment.
The network stressed that Al-Fashir is experiencing a documented genocide witnessed in real time, urging Sudanese communities and allies in the UK to organize peaceful demonstrations to pressure for RSF designation and accountability via the ICC.
