The Sudan Doctors Network said Sunday it had documented around 32 confirmed cases of rape within a week involving girls from El-Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, following the RSF’s takeover of the city.
In a statement, the network said that its team had verified the cases based on reliable medical and field information. The victims had arrived in the town of Tawila after fleeing El-Fasher.
Some of these assaults occurred inside El-Fasher after the RSF overran the city, while others took place as the victims attempted to escape to Tawila.
The network condemned what it described as the systematic rape carried out by RSF members against women in El-Fasher and those fleeing the war. It said these violations constitute grave breaches of international humanitarian law and amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity.
The network held the RSF fully responsible and called for an urgent and independent international investigation, as well as immediate protection for survivors and witnesses. It also urged unhindered access for medical and humanitarian organizations to provide treatment and psychological and legal support.
