Egypt Calls for an Effective Humanitarian Pathway in Sudan

Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Egyptians Abroad, Badr Abdel Aati, called for the “launch of an effective humanitarian pathway to ensure unhindered delivery of aid, alongside increased relief support and enhanced cooperation with the United Nations, the African Union, and relief agencies.” The minister emphasized the importance of consolidating regional and international efforts to support a comprehensive ceasefire and create conditions for an inclusive political process that meets the Sudanese people’s aspirations for security, stability, and development.

In a statement issued Monday, the Ministry said that during a phone call with his Sudanese counterpart, Mohe Eldin Salem, Abdel Aati stressed the importance of fully implementing the International Quartet’s statement in all its terms, and pushing for a permanent and comprehensive ceasefire to protect Sudan’s territorial integrity and national institutions, while maintaining close consultations between Egypt and Sudan as riparian states defending water rights and the interests of both peoples.

The statement added that the call also discussed the outcomes of Abdel Aati’s visit to Port Sudan on November 11 and ways to support efforts to reach a comprehensive resolution to the Sudanese crisis. The minister reaffirmed Egypt’s unwavering stance supporting Sudan’s unity, territorial integrity, and safeguarding its national institutions, rejecting any attempts to divide the country or undermine its stability.

Abdel Aati also reiterated Egypt’s condemnation of the atrocities and grave violations recently witnessed in El Fasher, emphasizing Egypt’s full solidarity with the Sudanese people during this critical period and its support for the Government of Hope led by Dr. Kamel Idris.
