The United Nations’ World Food Programme (WFP) described areas in North Darfur as “the most severely affected by the hunger crisis in Sudan,” noting that there is still hope to prevent famine in five areas of the state.
In its latest humanitarian update on Monday, the WFP said it is targeting nearly one million people in North Darfur with emergency interventions.
The WFP stated: “There is still hope; we have been able to prevent famine in five areas across the state.” The agency emphasized that, with access and the flow of humanitarian aid, the situation can be transformed, potentially averting famine.
