The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) reaffirmed that peace in Sudan must be Sudanese-owned, Sudanese-led, regionally coordinated, and backed by a unified international voice.
In a statement on Tuesday, IGAD said its Executive Secretary, Workneh Gebeyehu, convened the second Forum of Special Envoys on Sudan, bringing together key regional and international actors to forge a unified response to the crisis.
In his remarks, Gebeyehu reiterated that peace in Sudan must be led by Sudanese stakeholders, coordinated at the regional level, and supported by international unity. He called for an urgent coalition to end the violence, protect civilians, and stabilize the IGAD region.
He reaffirmed IGAD’s commitment—alongside the African Union and international partners—to securing a ceasefire, opening humanitarian corridors, and supporting a credible, civilian-led transition.
The statement said IGAD stands firmly with the people of Sudan in their pursuit of peace, dignity, and stability.
