Swiss delegation holds talks in Port Sudan and provides €50 million to support Sudan

A delegation from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation held talks on Sunday in Port Sudan focusing on the situation in the country and strengthening the partnership with the Sudanese government, announcing the provision of fifty million euros in support from the Swiss government to Sudan.
The delegation, led by Deputy Director-General Dominique Stillehart, met with Prime Minister Kamil Idris, Deputy Chairman of the Sovereign Council Malik Agar, and Foreign Minister Mohieldin Salem.
During the meeting with the Prime Minister, according to the Sudan News Agency (SUNA), the delegation reviewed the humanitarian efforts being delivered through international organizations. They affirmed that the visit aimed to closely assess the humanitarian situation, observe the conditions of the displaced who were directly affected by the war, and discuss issues related to human rights.
Stillehart expressed the agency’s appreciation for the cooperation with Sudan and affirmed its readiness to continue providing humanitarian support at the highest levels of coordination.
The Prime Minister welcomed the Swiss delegation and expressed the government’s gratitude for the support provided to those affected by the war launched by the militia. Idris gave an overview of the overall humanitarian situation and confirmed the government’s readiness to work in full harmony and coordination with international organizations to ensure humanitarian aid reaches all those affected effectively and transparently.
The Swiss delegation also discussed with Deputy Chairman of the Sovereign Council Malik Agar the humanitarian situation—particularly the violations committed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in El Fasher and other parts of Sudan—and explored mechanisms for determining the method of humanitarian assistance, expressing solidarity with the Sudanese people and supporting their return to normal life.
Agar expressed Sudan’s appreciation for the Swiss government’s position and explained the nature of the war and the slogans associated with it, noting that the conflict was launched with the goal of occupation and settlement.
He stressed that the mistake most supporters make is mixing humanitarian aid with political agendas, which weakens the primary objective of providing assistance and allows humanitarian issues to be used to pressure governments. Agar affirmed that the war will not end unless the UAE stops supporting the RSF militia.
For its part, the delegation announced that the Swiss government has allocated fifty million euros to support the Sudanese government and emphasized the importance of direct communication with Sudan.
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Mohieldin Salem received Dominique Stillehart and the accompanying delegation.
The Swiss delegation’s head explained the objectives of the visit and the agency’s programs supporting humanitarian efforts, affirming Switzerland’s interest in monitoring humanitarian developments, assessing urgent needs, and strengthening cooperation with Sudan in this field.
For his part, the Foreign Minister outlined the Sudanese government’s efforts to facilitate humanitarian work and presented Sudan’s comprehensive vision for peace, including the government’s proposed roadmap aimed at strengthening stability and alleviating citizens’ suffering.
He praised the constructive cooperation between Sudan and Switzerland, emphasizing the importance of continued joint coordination to serve the interests of the Sudanese people and support regional and international efforts to achieve sustainable peace in Sudan.
