Former Attorney General: I Expect a Verdict in the Khamees Abakar Case Early Next Month

Former Attorney General Al-Fateh Taifour predicted that the verdict in the case of the killing of the late Governor of West Darfur, Khamees Abakar, will be issued early next month.
Speaking during his intervention at a roundtable discussion organized on Wednesday by the Egyptian Center for Strategic Studies and Value Development and the Sudanese Global Center for Political and Strategic Studies—according to Al-Muhaqiq—Taifour stated that there are 560,000 privately owned properties occupied by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), most of which belong to civilians. He listed numerous violations and massacres committed by the militia in the states of West Darfur, Al-Jazira, Khartoum, Kordofan, and North Darfur (El Fasher), noting that all of these are documented in the form of legal complaints.
Taifour affirmed that Sudan’s judicial bodies are capable of delivering justice. He said that 5,000 cases have been filed, and rulings have been issued in 2,500 of them. He questioned how victims will view the political process and whether this justice will meet their expectations, stressing that this is an important matter. He added that the impact of the judicial track and transitional justice on the overall political process is something that cannot be ignored.
