Washington: We Support Ethiopia’s Efforts to Secure Access to a Seaport

The Commander of the U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM), General Dagvin Anderson, affirmed during his official visit to the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa that the United States is keen to strengthen military cooperation with Ethiopia and to support its efforts to promote stability in the Horn of Africa.
General Anderson explained that Washington values the pivotal role Ethiopia plays in enhancing regional security, noting that the United States supports Addis Ababa’s efforts to obtain access to a seaport through peaceful means, in a way that contributes to economic development and fosters regional stability.
He also stressed the continued military cooperation between the two sides in areas of training, capacity building, and strategic coordination, considering the U.S.–Ethiopia partnership a key pillar for supporting regional security and advancing joint efforts to address challenges in the Horn of Africa.
