Doctors reported Friday that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia is detaining around 100 families in the town of Babnousa in West Kordofan under harsh conditions.
In a statement, the Sudan Doctors Network said the RSF is holding more than 100 families from Babnousa and surrounding villages—including children and pregnant women—under extremely dangerous humanitarian circumstances.
The statement noted that several detainees, particularly women, have been subjected to beatings and humiliation on accusations that their relatives belong to the army, according to video evidence reviewed by the network’s teams—raising serious concerns about their safety.
The network condemned the abuses in the strongest terms, stressing that detaining civilians and subjecting them to mistreatment constitutes a blatant violation of international humanitarian law and deepens the worsening humanitarian crisis in the region. It reiterated its absolute rejection of targeting civilians—especially women and children—or using them as leverage or extorting their families for ransom.
