Washington Activates Intelligence Tools to Counter Foreign Interference in Sudan War

A U.S. legislative document reveals a new approach in Washington toward the Sudanese conflict, using intelligence agencies to counter foreign interventions that prolong or expand the fighting.

The law requires the CIA Director, within 90 days of enactment, to develop a comprehensive plan including: sharing relevant intelligence on foreign interventions in Sudan with U.S. regional allies and collecting and analyzing further information to enable the U.S. government to “counter foreign efforts that aim to prolong or expand the conflict in Sudan, for national and regional security.”

Observers see this as an explicit acknowledgment that external actors play a key role in prolonging the Sudanese war, likely focusing on countries accused of arming, funding, or using their territories as logistical platforms, including the UAE, Russia, Chad, and the Central African Republic.

This path could lead to stricter U.S. actions, ranging from sharing evidence with regional partners to imposing sanctions or joint security measures against cross-border arms and funding networks, aiming to cut supply lines fueling Sudan’s war machine.
