Message from Salva Kiir to Al-Burhan

The Chairman of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, received on Sunday a written message from the President of South Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit, concerning bilateral relations and prospects for cooperation between the two countries across various fields.

This came during his meeting with a high-level delegation from South Sudan headed by Tut Gaiwak, Adviser to President Salva Kiir on Security Affairs.

In a press statement, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Muawiya Osman Khalid said the meeting addressed the deep ties between the peoples of the two countries. He noted that the Chairman of the Sovereignty Council directed all state institutions at ministerial and technical levels to engage with their counterparts in South Sudan to discuss issues of mutual interest—particularly in vital sectors such as energy, oil, trade, and the economy—alongside political relations. He also pointed to the supportive stance of South Sudan’s government and people toward Sudan.

For his part, South Sudan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Monday Semaya, said that President Salva Kiir’s message to President Al-Burhan came within the framework of fraternal relations. He explained that the meeting addressed a number of issues, with both sides exchanging views, and reaffirmed the strength of bilateral relations between Sudan and South Sudan. He added that the discussions also covered oil industry issues, trade, and investment.

He said the two countries agreed on the need for their delegations to engage in bilateral and technical meetings to address matters of common concern.
