Lana Awad Sabeel, Media Officer at the North Darfur Ministry of Health, reported that at least 15,000 civilians have been killed and thousands displaced following the Rapid Support Forces’ takeover of El Fasher in North Darfur.
Speaking to Darfur24 on Tuesday, Lana said arbitrary arrests, torture, hunger, and disease in detention centers are ongoing.
The RSF was accused of systematic violations, including targeting medical facilities and personnel, destroying the state health system, denying citizens medical care, and deliberately killing patients unable to move.
She noted that the RSF is holding over 250 health and administrative staff following the fall of El Fasher, releasing around 30, including the General Director of Health, Dr. Khadija Musa, while the remainder remain in detention.
Reports from the UN, human rights organizations, and survivor testimonies indicate a significant deterioration in the conditions of women and children following the city’s fall.
Mass displacement waves involved large numbers of women and children relocating within Sudan or across borders. Pregnant women faced severe hardships, leading to miscarriages in some cases.
Regarding missing children, Lana said that unaccompanied minors were found in several displacement camps, separated from their families during flight.
