Over 107,000 People Displaced from Al-Fashir

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has reported that more than 107,000 people have been displaced from the city of Al-Fashir and surrounding villages in North Darfur, western Sudan, following the Rapid Support Forces’ (RSF) takeover of the city.

In a statement on Sunday, the IOM estimated that approximately 107,294 individuals were forced to flee Al-Fashir and its surrounding villages due to escalating insecurity between October 26 and December 8, 2025.

The majority of the displaced (around 72%) remain within North Darfur, primarily in the northern and western parts of the state. Meanwhile, estimates suggest that 19% of the displaced have reached other Sudanese states, including Central Darfur, Northern State, and White Nile.

According to field teams from the Displacement Matrix Movement, 75% of those displaced since October 26 were already internally displaced persons, including those who had initially fled major camps such as Zamzam and Abu Shouk or locations within Al-Fashir during previous escalations, before being displaced again after October 26, 2025.

The statement noted that movement restrictions and insecurity may limit mobility, and displacement patterns could change depending on evolving conditions and security developments.
