For the sixth consecutive day, the Khartoum Locality Committee for the Transfer of War Victims’ Remains has continued relocating remains from emergency burial sites, following the launch of the campaign on December 8.
In a Wednesday press release, the committee said operations are proceeding according to the approved timetable to move all remains from urban areas and neighborhoods to final burial sites in cemeteries.
Khartoum Locality Executive Director Abdel Moneim Al-Bashir, during an inspection in Al-Deim neighborhood, said the effort aims to transfer all war-related remains buried temporarily in schools, mosques, squares, roads, and markets to approved cemeteries.
He noted that all legal procedures were completed prior to exhumation and reburial, in coordination with the state committee and families whose relatives’ temporary burial sites were identified. Community and neighborhood service committees have been engaged in the process.
Al-Bashir urged families to expedite procedures within the announced December timeframe to avoid difficulties once the committee’s mandate ends.
