The Rapid Support Forces militia in East Darfur state has arrested seven civilians, including a traditional community leader, following a protest in the city of El Daein calling for the release of detainees held at Dagreiss Prison in Nyala, South Darfur.
Informed sources told Darfur24 on Monday that the RSF arrested tribal leader Mahmoud Moussa Kasha—brother of former National Congress Party figure Abdelhamid Moussa Kasha—along with seven others in El Daein on Sunday, accusing them of inciting protesters.
Families of detainees from East Darfur held at Dagreiss Prison staged a protest last Thursday in front of the home of Rizeigat tribal leader Mahmoud Moussa Madbou, demanding that he intervene to secure the release of their relatives, who were previously arrested by the RSF and transferred to Dagreiss Prison in South Darfur.
The protest came days after the death of Adam Ali, the former director-general of the state Ministry of Finance, who died in custody due to ill-treatment and torture, which led to complications from diabetes.
