Four independent sources from the city of Zalingei reported that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia carried out a campaign of arrests over the past week, targeting civilians and former military personnel. Those detained were reportedly transferred to the city’s main prison on charges related to alleged affiliation with the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Joint Force.
A witness told Darfur24 that RSF units, traveling in armed four-wheel-drive vehicles, conducted raids on the homes of several civilians and former military personnel, accusing them of belonging to the Sudanese army and the Joint Force. Others were reportedly accused of links to the former National Congress Party and the Islamic Movement.
According to the witness, the campaign targeted more than 30 individuals, including retired officers and elderly men, who were held in the main prison in central Zalingei under what he described as “extremely harsh” humanitarian conditions.
Mansour Mahmoud, a relative of one of the detainees, told Darfur24 that his relative, Abdel Nasser Ali, a former police officer, was arrested from his home in the Al-Hamidiya neighborhood. He was accused of cooperating with the Sudanese army and was allegedly asked to pay three million Sudanese pounds, in addition to being forced to leave the city after his release.
Mahmoud added that the family has begun collecting donations to meet the demanded amount.
In a related development, another source said his relative, Saif al-Din Moussa, a former officer in the judicial police residing in the “Five Minutes” neighborhood, was arrested on similar charges. His fate remains unknown, despite the family’s attempts to contact RSF leadership without receiving any information.
