State Minister at the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Welfare, Salima Ishaq, announced that 1,844 cases of sexual violence have been documented across Sudan, in addition to cases previously reported by the Attorney General concerning El Fasher.
Speaking to Darfur24, Ishaq said the Attorney General had recorded more than 1,300 cases of sexual violence involving individuals who arrived in the city of Al-Dabba in Northern State from El Fasher, following the RSF’s takeover of the city in late October.
She noted that data on violence against women in Sudan will be updated in coordination with the Ministry of Health, stressing that the actual number of sexual violence cases exceeds 2,500 following the events in El Fasher.
Ishaq explained that basic healthcare services for survivors of sexual violence will be integrated into a single service delivery system this year, starting in January in Al-Jazira State. These services will include long-term rehabilitation aimed at reducing stigma.
She also pointed to the signing of a framework document with the Office of the UN Secretary-General on the Prevention of Sexual Violence last April.
“We are trying to restore normal life for women, and we need adequate rehabilitation as well as economic and social protection,” she said.
