Egypt: We Will Not Allow the Collapse of the Sudanese State

Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Migration Dr. Badr Abdelatty affirmed that Egypt categorically rejects any attempts to divide Sudan or undermine its national security, stressing that Sudan’s stability is an integral part of Egypt’s own national security.

Speaking at a joint press conference on Thursday with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas, Abdelatty said the talks addressed developments in Sudan and their serious repercussions for neighboring countries, foremost among them Egypt, which is directly affected by the ongoing crisis.

He noted that Cairo made clear what it described as its “red lines” regarding the Sudan file, chief among them the rejection of dismantling the state or creating parallel entities, and the necessity of preserving national state institutions, foremost the Sudanese Armed Forces.

The minister stressed that Egypt will not allow the collapse of the Sudanese state or any harm to its institutions, emphasizing that any threat to Sudan’s security constitutes a direct threat to Egypt’s national security.

Abdelatty also reviewed Egypt’s efforts within the framework of the Quadrilateral Mechanism and in coordination with the United Nations to push for a viable, implementable roadmap, beginning with a three-month humanitarian truce paving the way for a ceasefire, and ultimately leading to the launch of an inclusive political process that excludes no party.

He further affirmed that there can be no equivalence between the Sudanese Armed Forces and any militias or other formations, while reiterating Egypt’s strong condemnation of the horrific massacres witnessed in the city of El Fasher.
