Sudan Crisis on the Agenda as Saudi Foreign Minister Arrives in Washington

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan arrived in Washington on Wednesday on an official visit to the United States.

During the visit, Prince Faisal is scheduled to meet with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio to discuss bilateral relations as well as regional and international developments.

On Tuesday, President Donald Trump’s senior adviser for Arab and African affairs, Massad Boulos, held talks in Riyadh with Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman, Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, Deputy Foreign Minister Dr. Waleed Al-Khuraiji, and Political Adviser Prince Musab bin Mohammed Al-Farhan, focusing on the situation in Sudan and the wider region.

Boulos said, “We focused on our joint efforts, alongside regional partners, to reach a humanitarian ceasefire in Sudan. We also discussed how the U.S.-Saudi partnership can help advance progress on regional issues.”

On Wednesday, Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed Al-Khuraiji visited Sudan and met with the Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, as part of ongoing Saudi efforts to reach a settlement in Sudan, in light of the initiative launched by Saudi Crown Prince in coordination with President Donald Trump to end the war in the country.
