Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty held a phone call with his Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan, to discuss developments in Sudan.
Abdel-Aty stressed the importance of working toward a humanitarian truce leading to a comprehensive ceasefire, emphasizing the need to preserve Sudan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national institutions.
He highlighted the need to provide safe havens and ensure unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to the Sudanese people.
The two ministers also exchanged assessments on a number of regional issues, including the situations in Gaza and Somalia. Both reaffirmed their outright rejection of Israel’s recognition of what it calls “Somali territory.”
Abdel-Aty underscored that such a move constitutes a blatant violation of international law and the UN Charter, undermining regional and international peace and security, while affirming Egypt’s full support for Somalia’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, and its rejection of any unilateral actions that could undermine Somali sovereignty or stability.
