Open Invitation…Time to Giveback

Mohammed almardy altgany

As an agricultural professional and farmer with long-standing experience in sustainable land systems—and following my recent appointment to the World Agricultural Forum (WAF) Council—I see a timely responsibility to contribute to shaping a clear policy and implementation pathway for aligning Sudan’s agricultural sector with the global agenda on carbon farming and regenerative agriculture.

Sudan is gradually entering a post-war reconstruction phase. This transition presents a rare strategic window to rethink agricultural policy, rebuild productive systems, and reposition agriculture as a central pillar of economic recovery, food security, climate resilience, and rural livelihoods. Achieving this will require coordinated action between government institutions, the private and public sectors, development partners, academia, and independent professionals.

To initiate this process, I will publish a series of policy-oriented reflections, strategic frameworks, and practical proposals designed to stimulate evidence-based dialogue and collective action. These contributions will focus on translating regenerative and carbon-smart agricultural principles into national strategies, investment priorities, and implementable programs that are relevant to Sudan’s unique ecological and socio-economic context.

In parallel, I will engage with the Ministry of Agriculture in Sudan as a key institutional stakeholder, with the objective of ensuring that emerging ideas and collaborative outcomes inform policy formulation, regulatory frameworks, and long-term sector planning.

Rebuilding Sudan’s agriculture is not solely a government task, nor does it require formal invitations. It requires leadership, initiative, and shared responsibility. With informed policy choices and committed collaboration, agriculture can once again become a foundation for national recovery and a driver of sustainable prosperity.
